The activity in laboratory consists of the preparation of samples in cold rooms and the analysis with the Coulter counter and optical methods, such as SPES and digital holography.
Ice cores are cut with a band saw; the external layers are discarded to avoid contaminations, while layers are separated to guarantee the highest possible resolution along the length of the core. Samples are then measured and data are processed using custom analysis software.
A virtual station based on the SNOWPACK software is fixed in the same place of the coring to follow the seasonal trend of the snowpack and better estimate the sources of dust and the age of the layers.
